Writing Update #2

Current Word Count: 43,870 [updated 10:30 pm]

First Draft of Manuscript Due: 68 Days

Progress on The Scandalous Presidency of Barack Obama continues. I’ve been cutting back on the super-late nights in order to maintain the appearance of being fully functional during the day. Apparently, twenty ounces of Starbucks coffee in the morning isn’t enough to perk me up after going to bed at 1:30 or 2:30 am and waking up at 6:30 to go to my day job. But, since my last update, I’ve completed a few sections on some more complicated scandals, such as the Hillary email scandal, which, has had some new developments in recent weeks.

So, with about nine weeks to go, I’m confident I’ll be finished before the manuscript is due. I’m actually hoping that I can have all the pieces written within a couple weeks, and then have time to do a thorough self-edit before it goes off for a more comprehensive edit at Bombardier Books.

Anyway, back to writing! Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to get updates on the book.

UPDATE, 10:30 pm: Zuzu is making me feel guilty for working… how can I write with those sad eyes looking up at me?

“The Worst President in History” One Year Later

A year ago today, The Worst President in History: The Legacy of Barack Obama was first made available for pre-order. Back then, my coauthor Mark Noonan and I had no idea if the book would sell; we just felt the book had to be written. We couldn’t even imagine that it would become an Amazon bestseller. But, it did!

Since the book was put up, there hasn’t been a single day without sales. I kept expecting momentum to peter out, but sales continued. Within months, we sold the audio rights to an audiobook publisher. We hit #1 in the presidential biographies category a number of times and hit some amazing ranking numbers on Amazon. While other books came and went in the category, ours actually held on.

The book has also accumulated nearly 500 reviews… And even though 18 percent of those are bogus one-star reviews, the overall rating is currently at 4.3 out 5 stars!

The book achieved something a very tiny percentage of self-published books accomplish. And that success opened some doors for me.  I have a new book deal with Bombardier Books, a new, nonfiction imprint of Post Hill Press. My new book, titled The Scandalous Presidency of Barack Obama, will be published in 2018.

Publishing is a crazy business. You never know if something you write will take off. Books with big house publishers aren’t guaranteed success. Success with self-publishing happens, but it’s rare and difficult. It took a lot of hard work to spread the word about this book, and despite my limited resources, the book took off. It’s been a crazy adventure! Thanks to all of you that supported Mark and I this past year, and be sure to check out my new book when it is published.
